My Strange Addiction by Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is 17 years old, so like most of us 17 year old at GMC she is addicted to The Office. In an interview with Eilish in March 2019, she said she has watched the entire series of The Office at least 12 times throughout her life. So, it is no surprise in her recent song 'My Strange Addiction' she was able to sample a few lines from this cult-fanatic show. While she does reference the show, the song is about an addiction to a person that is not good for her. Her first line "deadly fever-please don't ever break". By acknowledging her addiction to this person as deadly she tells the listener it is bad but by saying "please don't ever break" she shows that this person being deadly to her does not matter anymore.

Verse 1

Don't ask questions you don't wanna know

Learned my lesson way too long ago

To be talkin’ to you, belladonna

Shoulda taken a break, not an Oxford comma

Take what I want when I wanna

And I want ya

She calls the person belladonna (a deadly flower) to again show the danger in pursuing this person but still stands by her addiction at the end saying she still wants them.

Verse 2

Deadly fever, please don't ever break

Be my reliever ’cause I don’t self medicate

And it burns like a gin and I like it

Put your lips on my skin and you might ignite it

Hurts, but I know how to hide it, kinda like it (Teh)

The standout line in this verse is "put your lips on my skin and you might ignite it" because it is repetative of her first line. In every verse she continues to acknowldeg the probelm with this relationship but how bad she still wants to be with this person. she says it hurts but she likes it.

You are my strange addiction

You are my strange addiction

My doctors can't explain

My symptoms or my pain

But you are my strange addiction

the chorus best exlains her addiction to this person. She says that no one can understand her symptoms or pain, meaning her devotion to this person. Because it is so uncalled for it is labled as a strange addiction.

This song, to me, represents the problems within many teen relationships today. Even once you relise that the relationship is toxic many will still try to make it work out of convince rather than true attraction.
