My Quarantine Experience
Disclaimer: During the duration of our closure, the staff at The Forge has decided to forego our usual weekly format. Instead, each day we will publish an article written by one of our staff members addressing their personal responses during this time. Therefore, the opinions expressed in these articles solely represent those of the author. We hope to return to our traditional publishing schedule soon.
How has this affected your everyday life?
Everyday I wake up around 9:00 a.m. so I can get my schoolwork done for the day. I have nothing to do for the rest of the day, except online dance classes, so I have a lot of free time. The quarantine isn’t really a problem to me since I'm still getting all of my work done on time.
What do you do during the day since you can’t go anywhere?
In the morning, I do my schoolwork and eat breakfast. After my sister finishes all of her work for the day, we walk/run around the block a couple times. By then, it’s lunch time so I make something to eat and end up eating a million chips because I get bored. I’ve been trying to find things to do before dance, so I try to clean something, paint, or do tiktoks with my sister. Then, it’s time for dance so I go outside and see my dance friends at a Zoom meeting. If my mom feels like it, we go for nightly rides in the car because my sister and I have a lot of energy and it’s a good way to get it out.
What good has come out of the quarantine?
I have been able to spend more time with my parents and sister. My sister and I usually don’t get along very well, so we try to do something together at least once a day to try and give mom and dad a break. I have been able to see my cat more, which is great, I love my cat. I can also do more chores for my parents that I wouldn’t have done if I was gone all day at school and dance.
