Quarantine on Easy Street
Disclaimer: During the duration of our closure, the staff at The Forge has decided to forego our usual weekly format. Instead, each day we will publish an article written by one of our staff members addressing their personal responses during this time. Therefore, the opinions expressed in these articles solely represent those of the author. We hope to return to our traditional publishing schedule soon.
School schedules around the country have basically been put on hold. Everyone has been moved to E Learning, and that has been a huge adjustment to everyone. Along with that, everyone has been told to stay home and avoid going out to places. So, with everyone being in virtual school and on quarantine, the Forge has been wondering how that has been affecting The Forge’s own students. So here is how the Coronavirus has been affecting me, Riley Grubbs!
1. What good has come out of quarantine?
While in quarantine, I have been able to play Animal Crossing New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch! The game recently came out, so this has given me the time to really get into the game. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve been waiting for this game for a year!
2. What do you miss the most?
I definitely miss having an actual schedule the most! Having to be accountable for my own wake up time and when i get my work done is hard for me. I miss having designated times for classes.
3. What do you do during the day since you can’t go anywhere?
Usually, I do my homework first, then I either play on my Switch or start a cross stitch piece.
4. How is online school going?
It is going pretty well for me right now. It is hard to remember due dates and everything, but as of right now, I am doing okay.
5. What places have you gone to since the quarantine?
I went to Spinx. That’s it.
6. How are you coping?
I am trying to stay busy to keep myself from focusing on how scary this situation is. I picked up cross stitching as a project that I can do during quarantine. Really, I am just trying to act normal and as if nothing is really going on.
7. What do you think you will remember most from all of this?
I think I will remember all of the uncertainty the most and how fast the virus is spreading. No one really knows what to do right now, as a global pandemic has never happened. And people not following quarantine are just making the virus spread so fast. Even with most people staying inside, it is still spreading so fast.
8. How has your regular grocery shopping been affected?
Instead of going to the grocery store, we order our groceries and use some service to have someone deliver them to our house.
9. Does you have family, friends, or a significant other that they have been unable to see since this has begun?- what has that experience been like?
We have had to stop visiting my grandma, and she cannot visit us either. She always wants to help us, so her not being able to do that makes her really sad. It also makes me sad, I miss seeing her.
