A QuaranTON of Free Time (Spent Doing Mostly Schoolwork)
I hope you guys are all doing well and staying safe during quarantine! Here’s how mine’s been going:
1. How has your work schedule been affected?
Well, it’s been pretty rough for me. I went from working 0 hours a week down all the way to 0 hours a week. Hopefully I can at least get a raise by the end of all this…
2. What good has come out of the quarantine?
Well, for better or for worse, it gives everyone a ton of freetime. I’m getting schoolwork done faster without having to deal with travel time to and from school, and the lack of structure makes it a lot less stressful.
3. How has this affected your separation between work, school, and home life?
Essentially, the quarantine has meshed both school and home life together for me. Monday through Wednesday I have mandatory college lectures in the morning, but other than that I just work on school work whenever I feel like it. As long as I get the assignments done in time, it doesn’t really matter when I do them. I’ll be doing something online with friends the entire day till like 2am, then you’ll find me in my room writing an essay until I go to bed.
4. What do you miss most?
You guys remember that whole face-to-face human interaction thing? Yeah, I’ve been missing that. Before quarentine, I had basically every weekend (and some weekdays after school) filled up doing stuff with friends in person, so not being able to do that makes my weeks feel kinda empty.
5. What do you do during the day since you can’t go anywhere here?
Well, as the title suggests, it’s a lot of schoolwork, mostly Senior Project. Other than that, it’s mostly spending time on the computer talking and playing games with friends and reading a ton.
6. How has your regular grocery shopping been affected?
Other than a few items being missing (bread at first, sour cream, etc.) shopping has been basically the same. I did wear gloves last time I went out to shop, and that felt a bit strange.
7. How is online school going?
Oh man, it’s just as t̶o̶r̶t̶u̶r̶o̶u̶s̶ fun as ever. The fact we get to do college online gives the teachers an excuse to stop teaching, so I’m basically just teaching myself for both of those. As for high school, the only thing I really need to worry about is Senior Project, which is takes up a lot of my time but is actually pleasant to work on.
8. What places have you gone since the quarantine?
I’ve only been out a few times. I went food shopping twice and went to Lowe’s once. Other than that, I’ve been taking walks around my neighborhood periodically.
9. How are you coping?
I mean, I’m just living my life the same minus going out. I’m not exactly worried too much about the whole situation, just waiting for it to be over.
10. What do you think you will remember most from all of this?
I’ll probably mostly remember all the conversations of people around me having mental breakdowns about the quarantine while I happily play games on my computer.
