Fun Ways to Get Outside During the Time of COVID-19!
Going outside is SUPER important! Everybody knows they should get out and move every now and again, even if they don't exercise often; just walking around for a bit can improve your physical and mental health! In the past year, however, going outside has been made a lot harder due to a certain virus I'm sure everyone is familiar with. When quarantine first started, I really didn't know what I would be able to do outside, but I eventually found plenty of fun and safe ways to be active outside. Although group activities do not appear on this list due to how difficult it is to get people together right now, I hope you will try some of these activities and have fun with them as well. Who knows, maybe you'll find a new hobby!
1. Walking & Running
This is, by far, the most accessible activity on this list. The only things you need are a pair of legs and a relatively empty place. Neighborhoods are great for this because there isn't too much traffic of any kind, but if looking at houses gets too boring, you could always journey to a nature trail and take a hike! Running may not be as accessible if you don't live in a decently sized neighborhood or something like that, but take a look and see if there are any public spaces around that would work. Places like college campuses are great because they are usually pretty empty on the weekends. It is not too hard to be safe while walking & running, and it can be extremely fun and rewarding as well!
2. Skateboarding & Longboarding
This one might be a little harder to safely pull off, but if you can, it's a lot of fun! Although most skate parks are out of the question right now, if you live in a neighborhood or around some empty roads, you could get a lot of enjoyment out of a skateboard. While you might not be able to do a lot of the things you can do at a skate park, cruising along while listening to some music can be really calming, and going down hills is such a thrill!
NOTE: If you're really interested in doing this, I recommend using a longboard for cruising since they roll further and smoother than a normal skateboard!
3. Roller Skating
Admittedly, this is the one that most people avoid. Because skating rinks are a no-go right now, a lot of the charm has been taken out of roller skating. You could get a lot of the same fun from skateboarding, so the only time you would really want to do this is if you want to mix things up a little. I would only recommend this if you already own a pair of skates!
Biking is so much fun, and it's very easy to stay safe while doing it! With the right kind of bike, you can ride on-road and off-road, which makes this one super versatile. And if you're the one who likes going fast, this is definitely the fastest option. Biking offers some fast fun that'll take you a long way!
Although these activities might seem bland at first, they can be super enjoyable. All of these options are perfect if you want to destress a little, and they all offer great benefits when it comes to health! Although nothing can replace taking a stroll downtown or going to the ski resort, these'll have to do for now, and there is a lot you can do with these! So stay safe, and journey out and go on some adventures!
